Wallis & Steevens No 8095

No. 8095. Reg. GOU 537. “Amy”. Built 1935. 5nhp. 10 tons. Advance Steam Roller which was supplied new to the War Dept. (Royal Engineers, Aldershot). Taken back in part-exchange by the makers in 1948, rebuilt and resold to R. Dingle & Sons Ltd. Stoke Climsland, who used her until the early 1960’s and then preserved her. Following further ownership changes within the County, she was acquired by the present owner who rallied her for a number of years before embarking on a complete rebuild in 1993. With the help of numerous colleagues, the work was completed in the Spring of 1999. Owned by: Morton Betty, Threemilestone, Truro.

No: 7247. Reg: HO 6417. “Gromit”. Built 1912. 5nhp. 10 tons Single Cylinder Steam Roller. Supplied new to George Givens in 1912 she returned to Wallis & Steevens works in 1931. In 1933 she was sold to F. R. Godden of Surrey. In 1959 she was sold to J. Alde of Horsham. By 1977 she was with James Lee of Surrey. In 1986 she was sold to scrap metal merchants J. W. Hardwick. They sold her to David Hall of Surrey. In his ownership she received a new firebox, front section of boiler barrel, tube plate and tubes. Preston Services purchased her in 2005 and sold her to David Eves of Hants. Purchased by the present owner in September 2006 “Gromit has undergone a very heavy overhaul which was done by ‘Scot Yeo of Ponsanooth. This included new rear tyres, new back axle, second shaft and general engineering work. Work was finished in April 2007. Owned by: Ben Jacka, Camborne.
