No: 15650. Built 1904. 4nhp. 3200 kg. Single Cylinder Portable Steam Engine manufactured for Grace & Co. and found in Totnes in 2005. Has been restored by the present owner. Owned by: Ben Ralphs, St. Buryan, Penzance.
Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies No 19439
No: 19439. Built 1907. 4nhp. 3 tons Single Cylinder Portable Steam Engine. Built for export to Chile, through agents W. R. Grace & Son, to drive presses on an olive plantation. Because this engine is a colonial type, it is built with a larger firebox and larger fire hole door, to facilitate the burning of inferior fuels. Imported back to England in 2007 by the Goddard Family of Devizes, Wilts, in a derelict condition. Purchased by the present Owner in June 2007 and fully restored by him to working condition in the last six months (with a lot of help from Scott Yeo). Work included all new front end, tubes, completely restayed valve, piston rod and bushes and all pump fittings and taps etc. Owned by: R. Hoskin, Buller Hill, Redruth.
Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies No 38088
No. 38088. Reg. DO 6883. “Enterprise” Built 1927. 8nhp. 14 tons. General Purpose Engine, believed to be the only 8nhp compound traction engine in existence. New via the Lincolnshire Show to Munson Brothers of Gedney Dyke she spent her entire working life in the Fenland area. Initially preserved in Suffolk she first came to Cornwall in 1965 in the ownership of Wes Coad of Sweetshouse, Bodmin who later moved to Sussex. Acquired from Essex by the late George Hawkins in 1992, the engine returned to and was rallied in the county being purchased by the present owners in September 2003. Since this time a number of jobs have been carried out, including the replacement of tubes, tube plate, smoke box, chimney and chimney base. No. 42013. Reg. TL 1874. “Sister Wendy”. Built 1931. 6nhp. 9 tons. Single Cylinder Traction Engine which was exhibited new at the RASE Show at Warwick before being acquired by dealer A. M. Cole of Sleaford, Lincs.
From here she moved to Scotland with D. Rome, Lochmaben, Dumfries, before moving into the Durham area with H. D. Ward of Wolsingham. She eventually ended up with a preservation owner in Norfolk before moving to the Isle of Wight with Fred Hollis of Chale who fully restored her. Her next owner was Terry Swann of Maldon, Essex, who
sold her to John Vincent of Indian Queens in March 1997. Purchased by Rob Wing and family in 2000 and subsequently by her present owner late in 2004. Owned by: Dave Tremain, St. Columb.
