No. 88097. Reg. DAF 499. “Toby”. Built 1937. 6nhp. 12 tons. ‘S’ type Compound Piston Valve Steam Roller, fitted with the maker’s radial valve gear. New to R. Dingle & Sons Ltd. of Stoke Climsland working mainly in the Bodmin area. Made its first public appearance at the Dingles Centenary Rally in 1985, following which time it was restored by its former custodians the Morcomb family of Mitchell. During the later part of 2005 the engine was purchased at the annual auction sale at Dingles Steam Village by its current owner. Owned by: Chris Smith, Newquay.

No. 88096. Reg. DAF 560. “Hilda”. Built 1937. 6nhp. 12 tons. ‘S’type Compound Piston Valve Steam Roller, fitted with the maker’s radial valve gear. New to R. Dingle & Sons Ltd. being used up until the 1960’s. After further commercial owners, passed to John Pengelly, Penryn, who fully rebuilt her in 1969. Purchased by Roy Richards in 1982 and maintained by Cyril & Michael Thomas who acquired the engine in 2003 and have carried out extensive work on the engine since this time. First appeared at a WESES rally in 1956. Owned by: Cyril Thomas & Family, Falmouth.

No. 89543. Reg. FJB 990. “Ultimate”. Built 1943. 6nhp. 12 tons. Compound S-type Piston Valve Steam Roller, fitted with the maker’s radial valve gear. Built for export to the Union of South Africa but commandeered by the War Office, 89543 was the last but one Marshall convertible engine made. Sold to Ford & Sons Ltd. Contractors of Berkshire in November 1949 for £100.00 in as new condition. Worked for some ten years and then acquired in the early 1970’s by Doug Knight of Bodmin. hen owned by Terry & Valerie Axe, Constantine, Falmouth. This engine has done comparatively little work. Its’ last Log Book registration prior to preservation being 13th January 1961. Purchased by the present owners in 2009. Owned by: Ian Burley, Redruth.

No. 62121. Reg. TA 3624. “The Whale”. Built 1913. 7nhp. 10 tons. Single Cylinder Traction Engine supplied new to Torrington R.D.C. Later taken over by Devon County Council. Came to Cornwall in 1956 in the ownership of John (Jack) Trounson, Redruth, who gave the engine its present name after a friend referred to it as “a clumsy great whale of a thing”. Purchased by John Sawle at the St. Agnes Rally Auction in 1976 and completely rebuilt over a number of years. First appeared at a WESES rally in 1957. Owned by: John Sawle, St. Agnes.

No. 34022. Reg. TA 2876. “Little Audrey”. Built 1900. 6nhp. 10 tons. Single Cylinder Agricultural Engine. Purchased on the 3rd September 1900 by a Mr. Honey of North Devon for threshing. Her driver Mr. Ivey of Black Torrington later bought her for the same work as well as general haulage. Purchased for preservation by the late Hedley James in 1956/7 she was rallied for several years before being laid up awaiting repairs. “Little Audrey” has now had an extensive rebuild and has passed to Hedley’s Son who also now has sons involved with the engine. This will see three generations of the same family running 34022 over almost fifty years, much longer than the commercial owners. Owned by: Tyrone James & Sons, Newquay.

No. 84921. Reg. UP 3325. “Reo”. Built 1929. 6nhp. 11.5 tons. Double Crank Compound Traction Engine, supplied new to Lodge & Donneson, Chester-le-Street, County Durham, passing to John Beattie, Morpeth, Northumberland in 1932. Changed hands twice more and spent 11 years in static use driving a saw-bench before being acquired for preservation by Jack Peirson and Jack Wakefield of Hetton-le-Hole in 1960. Purchased by Graeme Thirkell, Shildon, County Durham in 1979 and came into present ownership in May 1996. The paintwork is just as it was when the engine finished working commercially. New canopy fitted during the spring of 1998. Owned by: William Alford, St. Just, Penzance.
