No. 14695. Reg. MA 5129. “Hilda”. Built 1918. 12nhp. 15 tons. ‘K7’ Compound Ploughing Engine delivered new on 10th February 1918 to Samuel Jackson & Son, Wistaston, Crewe, with sister engine 14694, MA5128 (engine entry No. 17). After fitting canopies to both engines they were used by them for ploughing, cultivating and dredging etc. until the mid 1950’s. Sold in 1963 to H. T. Brown of Construction & Excavation (Tettinhall) Ltd. Wolverhampton, who used them for dredging until 1969-70. In 1974 they passed to Martin Saunders, Sunningdale, Berkshire and shortly afterwards went their separate ways with 14695 having three owners in Wales before being purchased by the present owner in 1988. No. 14694. Reg. MA 5128. Built 1918. 12nhp. 15 tons. ‘K7’ Compound Ploughing Engine delivered new on 10th February 1918 to Samuel Jackson & Son, Wistaston, Crewe. Used by them for ploughing, cultivating and dredging etc. until the mid 1950’s. Sold in 1963 to H. T. Brown of Construction & Excavation (Tettinhall) Ltd. Wolverhampton, who used them for dredging until 1969-70. In 1974 having spent her entire life paired with 14695 they passed to Martin Saunders, Sunningdale, Berkshire, with 14694 being purchased by the present owner in November 1978. Since this time the engine has been completely overhauled to her now immaculate condition, making a return to steam in 2003. Owned by: Geoff Westlake, Washaway, Bodmin.

No. 15463. Reg. DW 2121. “Dreadnought”. Built 1920. 7nhp. 16 tons. Compound Road Locomotive. Originally supplied new in 1920 to Robert Wynn & Sons, the engine spent its early life as part of Wynn’s haulage fleet and throughout the 30 years following the Second World War was mothballed, attending just a few rallies until being acquired in 1994 by Mr. Griffiths. Since then major restoration work has included the fitting of a new smokebox and firebox. Purchased at an Auction in November 2000 it has since been re-tubed and general engineering has been carried out including a repaint. Owned by: Christopher Vincent, Fraddon.

No. 8282. Reg. AC 9321. “Berkswell”. Built 1899. 8nhp. 12 tons. B4 Single Cylinder Agricultural Engine, the largest of its type normally supplied for use on the home market. New to Robert McKay & Co. Ltd. Berkswell, Coventry, (hence its present name), later passing to R. Arnold, Wroxton, near Banbury, Oxon. Purchased for preservation and restored by Dennis Smith also of Wroxton, it was subsequently acquired by the Bicknell family from Liphook, Hampshire. Purchased in 2000 by her present owner. No. 18873. Reg. CV 3579. “Truro City”. Built 1930. 5nhp. 10 tons. Class DNA compound Steam Roller supplied new to Truro Corporation (later Truro City Council) and spent its entire working life maintaining the city roads. Attended its first rally at Camborne in 1958 whilst still in Council ownership. Retired in 1960, it was acquired for preservation by Wheeler Bros. of Lanlivery (later of Exeter), passing in the mid-1970’s to Aubrey Sanders of Bow, near Crediton. Following a short spell with Chris Vincent of Indian Queens the engine passed to the current owner in 2001 since which time it has received an immaculate overhaul to the paintwork. No. 17481. Reg. YC 7438. “Lady Sandrina”. Built 1929. 5nhp. 12 tons. Class DNB Single Cylinder Steam Roller fitted with front water tanks and supplied new to W.J. King & Sons Ltd., Bishops Lydeard, Somerset. Later sold to Anglo American Ashphalt Ltd. of Bristol, passing into preservation in the early 1950’s with Ivor Polting of Andover, Hants. Has seen a further seven owners in preservation, including the Wessex Machinery Museum. Acquired from Spondon in Derbyshire by Raymond Hoskin in 1990 in a very run down condition. He carried out a major rebuild of the engine, returning the engine to a steamable condition in time for the Somerset Traction Engine Club’s re-union of King’s engines in 1999. Acquired by Frank Thompson, St. Agnes in August 2004. Following an accident the engine changed hands in 2007. Owned by: Bruce Sandow, Hayle.

No. 19205. Reg. AAF 130. “Lady Gwen”. Built 1932. 4nhp. 10 tons. DNB Single Cylinder Steam Roller, delivered to Redruth Station in 1932 for R. Dingle & Sons of Stoke Climsland, Cornwall, who had the contract for road works with Cornwall County Council. “Lady Gwen” as she is now known worked until 1964 in West Cornwall and was purchased by her driver Mr. Cyril Glasson. She was then sold to Raymond Hoskin who refurbished her and named her “Lady Gwen”. He rallied her and then sold her to Alan Henwood of Summercourt who fitted a new chimney and tubes in 1998. No: 15163. Reg: WR 7151. Built 1918. 16 nhp. 20 tons. BB1 Ploughing Engine. This engine was one of the many BB1 type built for the War Department during the First World War. She was sold to G. Gunter of Wetherby, Yorkshire. Purchased by the present owners - Daniel Bros. of Bodmin, in 1972 from Charles Roades of Caxton, Cambridgeshire, who with his late father had amassed a large collection of ploughing engines and tackle. The winch beneath the boiler is to enable the engine to pull cultivating implements across the field, thus helping to prevent soil compaction as the heavy engine simply moved up the headland. The rubber tyres are not original fitments but to make the engine more comfortable and acceptable when travelling on the road. Owned by:- Robin & Charlie Daniel, Bodmin.
